ToneKing Royalist 45 Gold Pin Retube Kit
Product Details

This kit ships with a matched pair of the JJ E34L's by defualt for the power section, one 6V6 for the screen regulator, and three Gold Pin JJ ECC83S in the preamp with one of them balanced for the phase inverter.  This retube kit will give the amp a smoother and creamier breakup.  Gold Pin tubes lack the grit or "hair" on the tone that you get with the non-gold pin tubes.

The default E34L power tubes provide the classic crunchy EL34 character while offering a tighter bass response and a punchier overall dynamic. These amps can also be equipped to run standard EL34's, EL34II's, KT77's and 6CA7's. Please use the customize button to view/select your preferred power tube.

These are adjustable bias amps, so be sure to adjust your bias every time you change your power tubes.

Tube location info: The balanced ECC83S is located in V3 for the phase inverter, which is third in line from end.  The 6V6 goes in V4 next to the power tubes.

This kit ships with E34L power tubes by default.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the power tubes. These are available in the "Related Products" tab as a set of three and will greatly decrease tube rattle.

These are adjustable bias amps.  You will nee to adjust your bias when you change your power tubes.  What's more, is that these amps also have adjustable power tube screens.  We suggest you track down a manual, which you can find in pdf format on the web. There you will find the full procedure and more information on biasing and adjusting the screens to your taste.

The short version: The manufacturer suggests you set the bias to 35mA per tube, that's 70mV at the current bias test points with your multimeter on the 200mV DC setting.  And the screen voltage should be set to 265V, which reads 1/100 of that, or 2.65V on your meter at the screen test points, with your multimeter on a 200V DC setting.

A friendly word of advice from the manual:  "If you are significantly increasing the screen voltage, keep in mind that the bias current will increase as well, so you want to make sure not to let the amp sit running for very long after adjusting the screen voltage, before you re-calibrate the bias voltage."
