ECC803S Gold Pin Balanced
Product Details

JJ ECC803S Gold Pin with fully Balanced triodes. We recommend these for long tail phase inverter stages which are common in most push pull circuits (most all guitar amps), or anywhere that symmetrical sections are desired. The Gold Pin tubes have a very open and lush tone. When overdriven they have a very smooth and singing character that's less gritty and less aggressive than the original ECC803S.

HIFI users can expect more bandwidth and a smoother presentation with the Gold Pin tubes.

All Gold Pin tubes feature internal components that have been selected off the assembly line and treated differently during the final construction process.

All our preamp tubes are stringently tested for noise and microphonics using Amplitrex testers driving an external amp. There is no extra charge for low noise and microphonics testing like with other tube vendors. Additionally the tubes undergo a battery of tests for basic performance characteristics and faults such as: Emissions, Transconductance, H-K and Grid leakage, etc...  If a tube does not pass our strict performance criteria it's tossed or sent back to JJ Electronic for evaluation.

We recommend these for long tail phase inverter stages or anywhere that symmetrical performance between triodes is sought. It also gives you the plate current and transconductance spec for each triode which is nice if you're trying to keep records or maintain exact consistency from tube to tube. If you need multiple matched tubes please see our "Balanced and Matched" option.

The Gold Pin JJ ECC803S is based on the same construction as the original JJ ECC803S. The internal components go through additional selection and processing during assembly. After working with these tubes for several years we can confirm they do test more consistently and sound noticeably different than the original JJ ECC803S.

The extremely long plate design of the ECC803S makes them a bit more prone to mechanical noise/rattle in compact combo amps. We still use them regularly in larger combos such as the DRRI's, Twins, etc... and of course heads. If you want to use them in a compact combo application we recommend using one of our EuroDampers.

The guitar players out there will observe the open, lush, and chimey clean tones these provide. When overdriven they're very smooth and refined sounding with less grit and "teeth" than the original JJ ECC803S. Of course they still have that pushed upper mid and high end response the original ECC803S is known for. If you're looking for more attitude and grind stick with the original ECC803S's.

HIFI users should observe an increase in bandwidth with a very lush presentation and a distinctly vocal upper mid.
