Want a little cleaner front end and the earlier breakup of the JJ EL844? This is our Low Output SRV Option Retube Kit for the 90's era VOX AC15 Reissue. This kit uses a JJ 5751 for V1 which is in-between an ECC81 and an ECC83S in gain, along with four ECC83S's with one being current balanced for the phase inverter in V5 and a matched pair of the low output JJ EL844's for the power section.

The Balanced ECC83S is located in V5 closest to the rectifier tube and the 5751 is located in V1.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If your amp is the combo version and you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the two EL844’s and the 5Y3. These are available in the "Related Products” tab as a set of two small dampers for the EL84's and one large damper for the 5Y3S and will greatly decrease tube rattle.

These amps are cathode biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. The JJ EL844’s are a drop in replacement for EL84’s. The EL844’s will reduce the power output of the amp by a decibel or two which is very noticeable.
