If you have read our website then you probably know that we have an AD30HTC in the studio. This is Bob's favorite set of tubes for it. This kit uses a matched quad of the JJ EL84's and a JJ GZ34 for power. For channel one we use a gold pin long plate ECC803S for V1 and a balanced gold pin ECC83S in V3. In the second channel we use two gold pin ECC83S's with one balanced for V4.

This setup is designed to enhance the natural character of both channels. Sweet and chimey cleans with smooth buttery leads.

Just let us know in the comments section if you're looking for an early breakup, a moderate breakup or a later breakup for more headroom in which case we will choose the coolest grades we have available for the power tubes.

The Balanced Gold Pin ECC83S's are located in V3 and V4. The Gold Pin ECC803S is located in V2.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If your amp is the combo version and you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the four EL84’s and the GZ34. These are available in the "Related Products” tab as a set of four small dampers and one large damper for the GZ34 and these will greatly decrease tube rattle. ** Note; the wire tube retainers will not fit all the way over the damper rings.

These amps are cathode biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. The amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. A cooler grade of EL84’s will give you more clean headroom, whereas a warmer grade will give you earlier breakup. If you order online, leave us a note in the comments section letting us know your headroom preference (max headroom, middle of the road or early breakup).
