Want all the gain you can get from your 18 watter? This is the High Gain Option Retube Kit for the Marshall 1974X amp and most all 18 and 20 watt Clones. The preamp section uses three handpicked High Gain ECC83S's with one balanced for the phase inverter in V2. The power section includes a JJ EZ81 Rectifier tube and a matched pair of the JJ Electronic EL84’s.

The Balanced ECC83S is located in V2 which is the middle of the three pre amp tube positions.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If your amp is the combo version and you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the EZ81 and the two power tubes. These are available in the "Related Products” tab as a set of three. These will greatly decrease tube rattle.

These are cathode bias amps with no adjustment as are most all 18 and 20 watt Clones. The amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. A cooler grade of EL84’s will give you more clean headroom, whereas a warmer grade will give you earlier breakup. If you order online, leave us a note in the comments section letting us know your headroom preference (max headroom, middle of the road or early breakup).
