The Marshall 100 Watt VM 2466 Retube Kits.
All of our Marshall 100 Watt VM 2466 full Retube Kits are designed specifically for these amps. Every kit is configured to provide a specific sound/experience.
The power tubes for all of our Marshall 100 Watt VM 2466 kits are The JJ KT66’s these have a clean low end response with a forward mid-range and articulate highs. When overdriven these tubes crunch up early in the upper mids and highs resulting in an incredibly complex tone that retains excellent low end clarity (just like the originals).
If your amp is a combo version or you want to use the correct tube retainers then the “Spring and Cap” style retainers are available. These mount right on the amp using the stock screws and allow you to correctly retain the stock tubes or use any full base KT66.
These are all adjustable bias amps and all you need to check and adjust the bias is a bias probe and a Multimeter, or our all-in-one Eurotubes “Pro One” bias probe that reads both the plate current and the plate voltage simultaneously. These amps have internal test points so you can use a multimeter to set the bias. They look like three pins, the middle pin is ground, the right pin is for the right tube and left pin is for the left of tube. Right next to the test points is the trim pot, it controls the bias for both tubes. Set it so that each side reads around 48mV. We usually like to see each side within 2mV but it appears that there is some error between the two test points so as long as they are within 5mV you will be fine.
The Standard Retube Kit is very close to OEM. The kit includes one matched quad of JJ KT66’s, one Balanced JJ ECC83S for the phase inverter (V4, closest to power tubes), and three Standard JJ ECC83S’s for V1 – V2 – V3.
The Gold Pin Retube Kit uses the JJ ECC83S Gold Pin variants to provide a smoother, creamier, and more singing overall sound. This option is less aggressive and has less “teeth” when driven hard. If you like a classic raunchy gritty overdriven tone, we recommend looking to the Standard or High Gain option. If sweet, open, and more refined is what you’re after this kit will do it. The kit includes one matched quad of JJ KT66’s, one Balanced JJ ECC83S Gold Pin for the phase inverter (V4, closest to power tubes), and three Standard JJ Gold Pin ECC83S’s for V1 – V2 – V3.
The High Gain Retube Kit uses our hand picked high gain selected JJ ECC83S’s. If you’re looking for maximum crunch and grind this is where you want to be. Sonically this setup is very similar to our Standard Retube Kit but with a little extra gain on tap. The kit includes one matched quad of JJ KT66’s, one Balanced High Gain JJ ECC83S for the phase inverter (V4, closest to power tubes), and three High Gain JJ ECC83S’s for V1 – V2 – V3.
The ECC803S V1 Option Retube Kit uses the Long Plate JJ ECC803S in the V1 position. The JJ Long Plate ECC803S has a little lower gain with big thick mids and a little more sparkle in the highs. The kit includes one matched quad of JJ KT66’s, one Balanced JJ ECC83S for the phase inverter (V4, farthest from the input jack), two Standard JJ ECC83S’s for V2 – V3 and one Standard JJ ECC803S for V1 (closest to input jack).
