The EML RGN2504 is part of Emission Labs mesh plate series of full wave rectifiers. The RGN2504 belongs to the classic series of 4V directly heated rectifiers (RGN2004, 2504, 4004) and represents an excellent combination of voltage handling and current output. The RGN2504 is an obvious partner for medium output 4V power tubes (PX25, or stereo AD1’s), but works just as well with all the medium output DHT’s (2A3, stereo 45’s, etc.).
As with all of the EML mesh plate rectifiers, the RGN2504 is built with many key features.
The first being the oversized 100% mesh anode construction. This provides an extremely low mechanical resonance. The plate area, filament design, and internal geometry are designed to provide the classic/correct RGN2504 dynamic characteristics.
Additionally EML uses a high quality ceramic base which is rubber isolated. This helps to minimizes chassis induced vibration. These features combined with an extreme attention to detail, double getters, etc. make the RGN2504 worthy of your consideration.
Designing tube rectified power supplies is not trivial. All aspects of the voltage source (power transformer) and load must be considered. An exotic and high performance tube such as the EML RGN2504 will reward you with exceptional sonics and durability, when implemented correctly. Additionally, substituting rectifiers in existing circuits is not always straight forward. If you are tube rolling rectifiers it is required that the limiting values of each tube type are respected.
