The 45B is an uprated version of EML’s classic 45 triode. Utilizing the same “V” style filaments and plate assembly from EML’s standard 45, the original magic of the 45 is retained, while allowing higher output operating points to be used. If you’ve ever fallen in love with the classic 45 sound, but desired more output, this is where you want to be.
Originally built/designed as a joint project between Roger Modjeski (RAM) and EML, the 45B is plug-and-play compatible with any traditional 45 design. As a standard 45 substitute, the 45B will not necessarily produce more power. In some instances a small increase in the bias point (increasing plate current by 10-15%) can provide a small increase in output power (and a better damping factor). However for the 45B to really shine it should be run at higher voltages, where the tube is capable of producing more than 2x the power of a traditional 45. EML 45 comparison:
The standard EML 45 has become a modern classic. In production since 2001, Emission Labs was the first 21st century manufacturer to reproduce the classic American 45 triode. The EML 45M is the mesh-plate version of EML’s classic 45. Built with the same general construction as the standard EML 45 (“V” style 4-course filaments, gold plated grids, etc.) but utilizing a true mesh anode. As with all the mesh-plate variants we expect an improvement in detail, air, and space. The 45M is no exception. If you’re looking for the most open and transparent sound within the 45 family, this is it.
