All of our Ampeg SVT-2 Pro full Retube Kits are designed specifically for these amps. Every kit is configured to provide a specific sound/experience.
The default power tubes for all of our Ampeg SVT-2 Pro kits are the JJ KT88’s. The JJ KT88’s are a higher power tube with lots of headroom, thunderous lows and thick/aggressive mids. However you can use the dropdown to select the JJ 6550’s. The JJ 6550 is a high power tube with more headroom than your standard EL34 or 6L6 variant. Compared to the KT88, it breaks up a little earlier and has very raw and open overdriven sound.
These amps are adjustable bias with LED indicators so all that is required is a screwdriver.
The Standard Retube Kit is very close to OEM. The kit includes one matched sextet of JJ KT88’s by default, one Balanced JJ ECC83S and two Balanced and Matched JJ ECC82’s for the phase inverters and driver in the power section closest to the power tubes. One Standard JJ ECC82 and four Standard JJ ECC83S’s for the preamp section up front.
The High Gain Retube Kit uses our hand picked high gain selected JJ ECC83S’s. If you’re looking for maximum punch and growl this is where you want to be. Sonically this setup is very similar to our Standard Retube Kit but with a little extra gain on tap. The kit includes one matched sextet of JJ KT88’s by default, one Balanced JJ ECC83S and two Balanced and Matched JJ ECC82’s for the phase inverters and driver in the power section closest to the power tubes. One Standard JJ ECC82 and four Handpicked High Gain JJ ECC83S’s for the preamp section up front.
The ECC803S Option Retube Kit uses the Long Plate JJ ECC803S in the Preamp section. The JJ Long Plate ECC803S has a little lower gain with big thick mids and a little more sparkle in the highs. The kit includes one matched sextet of JJ KT88’s by default, one Balanced JJ ECC83S and two Balanced and Matched JJ ECC82’s for the phase inverters and driver in the power section closest to the power tubes. One Standard JJ ECC82 and four Standard Long Plate JJ ECC803S’s for the preamp section up front.
