The JJ 12AY7 / 6072 is a high quality, low noise purpose built 12AY7. Also available with current Balanced triodes for phase inverter use and Balanced and Matched in pairs or multiples.
The 12AY7 / 6072 was used in many Fender Tweed era amps and is also very common in mic pre’s and tube mic’s. In the guitar community this tube is commonly used in place of a 12AX7 to lower the gain. They’re roughly 60% lower in gain than a traditional 12AX7.
All our preamp tubes are stringently tested for noise and microphonics using Amplitrex testers driving an external amp. There is no extra charge for low noise and microphonics testing like with other tube vendors. If a tube does not pass our strict performance criteria it’s tossed or sent back to JJ Electronic for evaluation.
