For those of you who want more drive and sustain from the front end and a little less headroom or overall power from the amp. These will not hurt your clean tone but as you dial in gain you will just get a bit more. A matched pair of JJ EL844's to reduce the output a couple decibels, a handpicked high gain ECC83S for V1 and a high gain balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter in V2.

Just let us know in the comments section if you're looking for an early breakup, a moderate breakup or a later breakup for more headroom in which case we will choose the coolest grades we have available for the power tubes.

The Balanced High Gain ECC83S is located closest to the power tubes.

These amps are fixed biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. The amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. The JJ EL844’s are a drop in replacement for EL84’s. The EL844’s will reduce the power output of the amp by a decibel or two.
