Carvin V16 SRV Option
Product Details

It's no secret that Stevie played his amps cranked and preferred a little cleaner sound from the front end allowing you to hear more power tube breakup. This kit uses a JJ 5751 for V1 which is in-between an ECC81 and an ECC83S in gain, a standard ECC83S for V2 and a balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter in V3 and a warmer grade of JJ EL84's for the power section.

The Balanced ECC83S is located in V3 closest to the power tubes. The 5751 is located in V1.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If your amp is the combo version and you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the two EL84’s. These are available in the "Related Products” tab as a set of two and will greatly decrease tube rattle.

These amps are adjustable bias. You can use the "Carvin method" with a Multimeter, or you can use one of our 9 pin bias probes with a Multimeter, or our all-in-one 9 pin "Pro One" bias probe (which reads plate voltage and plate current simultaneously). These are available under the "Related Products" tab.

You can use our Carvin bias video for reference which we did on a V3. The video shows using bias probes and also shows the Carvin Method for EL34’s and 6L6’s. Please Note; a setting of 40 to 45mA is good for a pair of EL84’s. If you’re using the JJ EL844’s a setting of between 30 to 35mA is good using the Carvin Method. If you’re using a bias probe then a setting between 20 to 24mA is good for EL84’s and a setting between 15 to 18mA is good EL844’s.

The video below explains the difference between bias probe types.
